Original Productions produced
"DriveShaft" for Fox Television, which aired on the
FX Network in June 2003. The premise: two contestants, each in
desperate need of a new car, risk their own vehicles when they
join forces with expert mechanics to transform their cars into
a variety of racing machines – chariots, snowmobiles, boats
– culminating in a spectacular race.
Each of the contestants was given a team of
five fabricator/mechanics that would work for five days, transforming
their car into some other sort of vehicle. One team would become
“The Blue Team” and would work on the “Blue
Set”, and the other one would become the “The Red
Team”, and would work on the “Red Set”.
On the sixth day the teams would take their
cars out to a racecourse and race head to head. The fabricators/mechanics
on the winning team received a cash prize and the vehicle owner
would win a new car. The losers got nothing. Each week a different
build would take place as like on Monster Garage.
As Production Designer for “DriveShaft”,
Dan Statler designed the sets where the two teams were going
to compete and with the help of his crew, he built these sets
and created original furniture.
